Earth, meet Titan..
We have always thought our planet to be the only planet with an atmosphere, alone in our vast solar system. But now she has met someone, well a planet named Titan.
Titan lives at home with Saturn, it is 50% larger than Earths, it is the second largest moon in the solar system. But Titan is rather unique in that it has an atmosphere, but not the atmosphere you are thinking of. Our atmosphere is composed of water, we have a hydrological cycle, Titan has a methanological cycle… what is that I hear you say? Well instead of it raining water, having ice caps of frozen water, and oceans of water Titan has methane rain, methane ice caps and methane oceans! It also an atmosphere 4 times denser than our own. Like Earth the atmosphere is largely composed of nitrogen. the climate forms similar features found on Earth. The rain is an incredible sight as because of its size, the gravity on the planet is a lot lower, coupled with the denseness of the atmosphere, rain falls almost as slowly as snow and the droplets are significantly larger than Earth’s rain droplets. It is truly a fantastic discovery!
The Purple outline is Titan’s atmosphere, it is also much thicker than Earth’s.
